Global registration of domain names crossed 205 mn in 2010

Domain registrations grew by 12.1 million,up by 6.3 per cent compared to 2009.

The global base of internet domain names grew by nearly 3.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2010,according to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief,published by VeriSign.

The fourth quarter of 2010 closed with a base of 205.3 million domain name registrations across all Top Level Domains (TLDs). This was a 1.7 per cent increase over the third quarter. Domain registrations grew by 12.1 million,up by 6.3 per cent compared to 2009.

Verisign is part of security software company Symantec and provides authentication service for users online.
