It is the season of a coal-block allocation scam and the JPC report in Parliament. But for Telangana MPs,no issue is bigger than their statehood demand. As Parliament continues to be disrupted, five Lok Sabha MPs from Telangana, all belonging to the Congress, took to a unique way of protesting Monday. G Vivek,Ponnam Prabhakar,Sudhender Reddy,S Rajaiah and Manda Jagannathan parked themselves on the stairs of Gate No. 1,making it their home for 48 hours. As evening rolled in,bed rolls and pillows were spread out. Dinner was served on the staircase itself, for the five MPs and a few sympathisers. As they prepared for sleep under the open sky,the helpful parliamentary staff made arrangements for a cooler and a pedestal fan.
Making a Point
Educational Interest
WHEN Analjit Singh was appointed chairman of Board of Governors of IIT Roorkee, most thought the founder of Max India would hardly have any time for the institute considering his hectic corporate engagements. Singh, however, has surprised all. Not only does he take keen interest in the IIT,it is learnt that he has also taken to visiting the institute almost on a monthly basis. The monthly visits in fact have to do with his allied educational interests. Singh also happens to be chairman of Board of Governors of Doon School, his alma mater.
Wild Optimism
WHILE the BJP is banking on the charisma of Narendra Modi to offset the influence of B S Yeddyurappa in the Bombay-Karanataka region, the Congress is behaving as if it has already grabbed the Assembly seats in the area. Modi,BJPs trump card,is slated to visit Belgaum on Thursday. But,if Sanjay Nirupam,Congresss in-charge for the region,is to be believed, the Gujarat CM will have no impact because the people have already decided to vote for the Congress. In the last 10 days,I have travelled about 4,800 km in the region, and at most places people dont even know who Modi is, Nirupam claims.Incidentally,Congress had won just 11 of the 50 Assembly seats in the region in the last elections.
