Express Adda: An evening with a powerhouse performer, Irrfan

Irrfan,India's biggest acting export,is the guest at Express Adda tonight.

Irrfan grabbed international attention with his performance in The Warrior, which won accolades across the world, including a BAFTA. It would take two more years for Bollywood to recognise his acting prowess in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Maqbool, where he played a menacing and conflicted gangster.

Since then,Irrfan has starred in over 40 films including Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi,both of which went on to win at the Oscars. Widely seen as Bollywood’s finest export, the National School of Drama (NSD) graduate has acted with the likes of Angelina Jolie in A Mighty Heart, and starred in the Hollywood blockbuster The Amazing Spiderman.

Irrfan will be the guest at Express Adda in Delhi on Friday. He will take questions from, and interact with,a select audience on a range of subjects. The informal, intelligent conversation will be moderated by Shekhar Gupta,Editor-in-Chief of The Express Group.

Adda,a unique series of interactions with men and women at the centre of change in our times, began two years ago,and has so far hosted a galaxy of personalities at the top of their respective fields — from Amitabh Bachchan,Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan to Saina Nehwal,Virat Kohli and Viswanathan Anand; and from Thomas Friedman,Fareed Zakaria and Martin Wolf to Rajnath Singh,Kapil Sibal and Sheila Dikshit.

In an industry obsessed with stardom,Irrfan has created a space that is uniquely his own. He has moved effortlessly from cameos to lead roles, and left an impression on his audience irrespective of the character he has played.

Critics have consistently picked out his performances even in films that haven’t worked at the box office. Some of that magic will be on show at Adda on Friday.
