Ex-Bihar Youth Cong leader held with arms

The Bihar Police have arrested a former vice-president of Bihar Youth Congress and two others in possession of a looted police carbine,a semi-automatic rifle along with 89 live cartridges and two magazines from Warsaliganj,Nawada

The Bihar Police have arrested a former vice-president of Bihar Youth Congress and two others in possession of a looted police carbine,a semi-automatic rifle along with 89 live cartridges and two magazines from Warsaliganj,Nawada.

An LJP leader,who is the brother of the arrested man and is suspected to have ties with arms suppliers,however,escaped. A dreaded inter-state criminal also fled.

The police arrested Sanjiv Singh while he was at his ancestral Kutri village in Warsaliganj to attend a birthday party of his nephew,the son of Anjani Singh who unsuccessfully contested the 2010 Assembly election from Warsaliganj as LJP nominee.

The police received a tip-off on the gathering of an inter-state gang of criminals on the occasion. Nawada SP Surendra Lal Das said: We raided the village on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The SP also confirmed that the seized carbine was looted from police. He,however,did not specify when the carbine was looted.

Sanjiv and Anjani are sons of Kutri panchayat mukhiya Satyabhama Devi.

When some villagers tried to resist the arrest of the Congress leader,an inter-state criminal,Amrendra Kumar,escaped and Anjani escaped. The police,however,said Sanjiv has no criminal antecedents.

Bihar LJP spokesperson Lalan Chandravanshi said: We do not know the credentials of Anjani Singh. He is not even an active member of the party.

Congress spokesperson H K Verma was not available for comments.
