The Election Commission on Sunday said it has written to the Centre on the issue of inclusion of an option in the EVMs for voters to register their rejection of candidates if they feel that none of them is fit to become their representative.

Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said the poll panel has written to the Central Government on the implementation of Section 49 O of the Representation of People Act.

In case the government approves this,an additional button will have to be installed in the Electronic Voting Machines EVMs to enable people to vote under section 49O under which a voter need not cast his ballot for any of the candidates if he does not find them fit and can register his rejection,he said.
