A Dutch man was taken into custody by the police after his girlfriend,also a Dutch national,was found dead in the house they have been residing at the tourist town Mamallapuram near Chennai. Autopsy report said 36-year-old Johanna Cornalia Lamberta had injuries on the back of her head,broken ribs and punch marks on her stomach,indicating that the assailant smashed her head on the wall or the floor and punched her repeatedly. Police are interrogating Remco Elizabeth Martin Joseph,32,on suspicion that he murdered her. The police said they came to know about the death after Joseph approached them on Friday claiming that a group of people assaulted them at their house,leaving him unconscious and murdering her. However,as the officials found something amiss in the whole tale,they started grilling him. The police said Joseph has visited Mamallapuram,a popular tourist destination,at least five times so far,while she is believed to have accompanied him thrice. The house they stayed were owned by them,with a caretaker appointed to take care of the upkeep. This time,the two had landed in Chennai on March 21 and headed straight to the house. She was murdered the same night. He claims that someone attacked them and killed her. But we dont believe he is telling us the truth. We suspect that he killed her., said IGP C Sylendra Babu.
