They are different from each other as chalk and cheese. If one was a dapper matinee idol,the other possessed a magical voice that made his fan following the envy of many a film star.
Many have tried to clone them and failed. For neither the suave acting style of one nor the sweet but sonorous voice of the other could be aped. No prizes for guessing: I am talking about the inimitable duo 8211; Dev Anand and Hemant Kumar.
Apart from being famous in their own rights,Hemant Kumar lent his sonorous voice for Dev Anand in numerous hit numbers like Yeh raat yeh chandni from the film Jaal and Hai apna dil from Solva Saal,to name a few.
Incidentally,September 26,which happens to be the birthday of the veteran actor-director,was the day on which the eminent singer passed away.
It was great to read your editorial Birthday greetings on the actor in Screen,October 1,but I was quite surprised to find no obituary for the ace singer in that issue.
