Day ahead of rally, vandals damage car at Pyari home

There was a loud sound around 12 in the night.

A day before the first-ever rally of his Orissa Jana Morcha, suspended BJD MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra Saturday accused CM Naveen Patnaik of unleashing terror tactics against him after unidentified miscreants vandalised a car parked at his residence.

“There was a loud sound around 12 in the night. When I came out I saw the glass of my wife’s car shattered and a couple of bricks lying around. I am sure this is the handiwork of BJD hoodlums. There is a genuine threat to me and my family. I have been under ‘house arrest’ for the past four months and now this vandalism is sponsored by Naveen Niwas (CM’s home). This is like living in Stalin’s Russia,” Mohapatra, once a top Naveen adviser, told The Sunday Express.

Suspended from the BJD on June 1 for attempting a coup against Naveen,Mohapatra recently launched the OJM “to restore inner party democracy” and rid the BJD of “ruffian elements”.

“There was not a single policeman near my house though normally several special branch personnel loiter around for surveillance. Yesterday and today my effigies were burnt. Now plans are being made to get women BJD workers around my house to abuse me and my family. In spite of that the administration did not think that I deserved security. The CM after exhorting BJD MLAs not to make my rally successful quietly left for Delhi,” he said.
