Dalai Lama backs new Buddhist organisation plan

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has put his weight behind the plan to set up a new unified Buddhist body that has for the first time brought the three strands of Buddhism

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has put his weight behind the plan to set up a new unified Buddhist body that has for the first time brought the three strands of Buddhism — Theravada,Bodhisattvayana and Vajrayana — on a common platform.

Speaking at the valedictory session of the four day Global Buddhist Congregation in the Capital,the leader has said that the three strands are not very different and have common values that should be followed by all Buddhists.

Dalai Lama resolved to set up a new India-based body called the International Buddhist Confederation.
