Curfew was clamped in parts of West Bengal’s North 24-Parganas district on Tuesday when several places of worship were desecrated following clashes between two groups. The army is helping paramilitary forces in restoring peace in the area.
District Magistrate Vinod Kumar said curfew was imposed in Deganga after a Dy SP and a civilian were injured in the violence. The DSP was injured in brickbatting while the civilian received bullet injuries. The Army has been requisitioned for enforcing peace in Deganga. Around 200 personnel have been sent to stage a flag march and instill confidence in the people,” a defence official said.
