In a move aimed at wooing tribals living in the Maoists heartland here, the CPM has kicked off its rectification drive by deciding to expel three panchayat samiti members of Belpahari,a Naxal-hit block, from the party on charges of corruption. Having realised that corrupt practices by some leaders compelled the tribals to shift their allegiance to the Maoists, the CPM has taken a decision to regain their trust and reorganise the party in Belpahari, the strongest base of the rebels in Bengal. Sources said the party has decided to expel Mayna Shit,Supratik Soren and Sunil Murmu on charges of corruption and indulging in anti-party activities. As many as 37 CPM activists have been killed by Maoists during the last three years in Belpahari. We hope to regain the lost ground by carrying out an effective rectification drive and reforms within the party, said a CPM Belpahari zonal committee member.
