The police took the action after some students tried to break through the channel gate outside V-Cs office when the latter refused to meet them after four hours wait.

The police used force to disperse a gathering of Allahabad University AU students, who were demanding revival of the students union,at the office of the Vice-Chancellor here on Tuesday. The police took the action after some students tried to break through the channel gate outside V-Cs office when the latter refused to meet them after four hours wait.

According to police,a group of 1,000 students gathered outside the V-C office demanding a written assurance on the date on which the elections to the students union would be held. The V-C,while deputing some senior teachers to deal with the students, refused to meet them.

Not satisfied, some students reached the channel gate just outside the V-Cs office on the first floor and tried to break it, said SP City Subhash Baghel.

Nobody was seriously injured in the police action. A few students, however, had to be administered first-aid.
