In an attempt to seek people’s involvement in the state’s progress,Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will begin a Madhya Pradesh Banao Yatra from Amarkantak. In keeping with the tradition of BJP leaders hitting the road,Chouhan has already taken out two such roadshows.

Addressing public meetings and interacting with prominent people, social activists, industrialists and students,Chouhan will travel two days every week. Given that there are 50 districts in the vast state, the exercise will last many months.

The BJP government has finalised seven priorities that include attracting more investment, making agriculture a profitable business, empowering women and good governance to achieve what Chouhan calls ‘Swarnim Madhya Pradesh’. The CM will take feedback from officials on implementation of schemes launched.

However, the Congress is unimpressed and has described the roadshow as a ‘political stunt’. PCC chief Suresh Pachauri alleged Chouhan had no control over bureaucracy and that the state was lagging behind in social and development index. “MP stood 12th in the list of 15 big states with poor human development index. More than 32 per cent population is living below the poverty line and out of every 1,000 babies born,28 die before they celebrate their first birthday and 70 die before turning three,” Pachauri said.

Pachauri alleged six power companies that had signed MoUs with the state government had stopped taking interest citing lack of cooperation.
