The Builders Association of India (BAI) today called for the withdrawal of the new Development Control Rules (DC Rules),saying that they discriminate against the suburbs with regard to redevelopment norms.
“The new DC rules would hamper and render any development work of smaller size plots impossible in view of the huge open space requirement,” BAI Honorary Treasurer Anand Gupta said.
This was in contrast to the facilities available for redevelopment in the island city, where these rules are not in operation,he said.
D L Desai, trustee,BAI,said not only suburban developers but also the Mumbai District Co-operative Housing Societies Federation and Architects & Engineers had come out strongly against the new DC rules.
BAI also alleged that the Municipal Commissioner had framed very stringent fire safety requirements, which would hamper redevelopment of old buildings. He had,in fact, used the opportunity for raising the municipal revenue under the guise of amending the DC Rules at the cost of flat-Purchasers,according to the Association.
