BSES brings device to plug electrical leaks

The earth leakage circuit breaker disconnects supply when it detects current to earth.

Anil Ambani group discom BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has tied up with engineering major Larsen and Toubro to provide a safety device to its customers which helps in checking wastage of electricity and prevent accidents.

BYPL said the initiative has been taken as part of efforts to upgrade safety standards and the L&T manufactured device will be provided to customers at their doorstep for a nominal price.

The device called earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) detects current to earth and automatically disconnects the electricity supply, thus preventing serious mishaps. “ELCBs are very essential for the safety of one and all. It is strongly recommended to install them to save precious lives from any electricity related incidents,” said BYPL CEO Ramesh Narayanan.

He said BYPL has become the first utility in the country to launch such an initiative and reach out to customers on an important safety related aspect.

According to Section 61 A of the Indian Electricity Rules,1956 and Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) regulations,it is mandatory for all consumers, having an electricity load of 5 kW and above,to have an ELCB installed at their premises.

“We urge our customers — especially those having or wanting to apply for loads of 5 kW and above,to immediately have an ELCB installed. This is a very small price to pay for safety and peace of mind,” Narayanan said.

Customers can make a call to phone number 399 99 808 to place an order for an ELCB,the BYPL spokesman said.
