Gunmen use children to lure Iraqi soldiers into trap; kill doctor
BAGHDAD: Gunmen burst into a house north of Baghdad on Wednesday,killed three people and then sent the surviving children to call soldiers from a nearby Army checkpoint. The incident occurred in Diyala province when gunmen broke into the house at 1 am in Sadiyah,95 km from Baghdad,and killed three people. They then sent the children to the checkpoint to call the soldiers. Meanwhile in Baghdad,gunmen broke into the house of a senior woman doctor and killed her,Iraqs Health Minister Saleh al-Hasnawi said. The gunmen broke into the house of Dr Intissar al-Tuwaijri,tied up her husband and killed her.
Russian wildfires raise radiation fears
MOSCOW: Russian emergency workers have increased forest patrols in a western region previously contaminated by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster,trying to prevent wildfires from spreading harmful radiation,officials said on Wednesday. At least six wildfires were spotted in the Bryansk region the part of Russia that suffered the most from the Chernobyl catastrophe and fire crews quickly extinguished all of them,Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman Irina Yegorushkina said.
Zimbabwe auctions controversial diamonds
HARARE: Zimbabwe began selling millions of carats of rough diamonds on Wednesday that were mined from an area where human rights groups say soldiers killed 200 people,raped women and forced children into hard labour. Armed police and soldiers guarded top security vaults at the Harare airport,where private jets brought buyers from Israel,India,Lebanon and Russia,officials said. Abbey Chikane,Zimbabwe monitor of the world diamond control body,certified the diamonds as ready for sale.
Site of Britains oldest house uncovered
LONDON: Archaeologists have uncovered the site of Britains oldest house,the waterside home of nomad hunters dating back about 11,000 years. The dwelling,which has lake views,a thatched roof and very original features,predates the countrys Stonehenge by 6,000 years and was built when Britain was connected to continental Europe. Teams from the University of York and the University of Manchester believe the circular shaped home was built in 8,500 BC near Scarborough,northeast England.
Orissa techie killed in road accident in Florida
Washington: A 31-year-old software engineer from Orissa,who came to the US in 2001,died in a road accident in Florida,a community organisation said on Wednesday. Amitabh Das died in the accident on August 7 in Jacksonville,Florida. Amitabh came to the US in 2001 as an Infosys employee and later switched to Techni Source Company.
Ex-American Idol Fantasia attempts suicide
Los Angeles: Former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino has been hospitalised after attempting to commit suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills and aspirin. The overdose came after the 26-year-old was named in a divorce petition following an 11-month relationship with a married man and the US police are treating the incident as an attempted suicide.

The heartthrob was spotted leaving Greenes apartment in the morning and later went shopping with the actress who plays vampire Alice Cullen in the cult film franchise,reported Daily Mail online.
