Pak men were planning terror attack in UK
London: Two Pakistani men were planning a massive al-Qaeda terror attack on Britain in the guise of chatting online about girls,an intelligence official told a UK court. The intelligence official was testifying before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission,as part of a deportation hearing following the arrest of five Pakistani men in anti-terror raids in Manchester and Liverpool in April last year. He said that the alleged plot ringleader Abid Naseer exchanged coded emails with an al-Qaeda operative called Sohaib,using girls names in order to conceal their identities.

Jakarta: A Southeast Asian militant wanted for planning the deadliest terrorist attack in Indonesias history has been killed in a shootout with police at an Internet cafe,the President confirmed on Wednesday. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono used a speech to officials in Australian capital of Canberra to confirm speculation that Dulmatin was one of three suspected militants killed in two coordinated raids the day before on Jakartas southwestern outskirts on the countrys main island of Java.
Actor Corey Haim dies at 38 of drug overdose
LOS ANGELES: Corey Haim,a Hollywood teen star of the 1980s who became as famous for his struggles with substance abuse as his acting,died in Los Angeles of an apparent drug overdose,police said on Wednesday. He was 38. Haim,who rose to fame with License to Drive and The Lost Boys,was pronounced dead at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank early on Wednesday,according to LA police.
Myanmar election law puts Suu Kyi party in bind
YANGON: Myanmars main Opposition party will have to exclude its leader,detained Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi,if it wants to continue to operate and run in upcoming elections,under the terms of a law made public on Wednesday. Under the second of five new election laws,the military government is making Suu Kyis National League for Democracy and some other parties re-register within 60 days with a new election commission. Failure to do so means they will have to fold. But to register,they have to exclude party members serving prison terms.
China selects first women astronauts for space missions
Beijing: China plans to launch its third unmanned mission to the moon in 2013,even as it selected two women astronauts for the first time to take part in its future space lab. The two women astronauts,both aero-transport pilots from the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force,might take part in manned docking of Chinas future space lab,Zhang Jianqi,former deputy commander of the countrys manned space programme said.
German Catholic sex abuse scandals draw link to Pope
PARIS: Catholic authorities in Germany announced two major abuse investigations Wednesday one into the renowned choir once led by Pope Benedict XVIs brother and another more general look into what everyone knew about the sexual and physical abuse of students. The diocese of Regensburg appointed an investigator to examine the allegations of physical and sexual abuse that have engulfed the prestigious Regensburger Domspatzen boys choir,which was led by Rev Georg Ratzinger,the Popes older brother,from 1964 until 1994.
