All jailed military officers to go on trial for coup plot: Turkey PM
ANKARA: Turkeys Prime Minister vowed on Friday to put everyone who conspired against the countrys democracy on trial,as the number of military officers charged and jailed for allegedly plotting a 2003 coup against his Islamic-based government rose to 31. An impaired democracy is not the fate of this country, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told lawmakers at a televised meeting on Friday. No one is above the law,no one is untouchable,no one is privileged.
Thai court orders seizure of Thaksins assets
BANGKOK: Thailands highest court has ruled that ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra concealed his assets while in office and ordered the seizure of 46 billion baht 1.4 billion of his 2.29 billion in frozen assets. The court ruled on Friday that to seize all the money would be unfair since some of it was made before Thaksin became Prime Minister. The panel said it had unanimously agreed Thaksin and his ex-wife still held shares in Shin Corp,a telecommunications giant he founded while he was PM. It also agreed he had shaped government policies on mobile phone regulations that profited the countrys largest service provider,also controlled by his family.
Indian among three killed in Egypt ship accident
ISMAILIA: Three crew members were killed and three tourists and a crew member injured on Friday when a ship carrying 1,473 passengers hit a harbour wall in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh,the ships company said. We sadly have to confirm the death of three crew members. An Indian and a Brazilian were among the crew members killed,said Salah Hashem, said an Egyptian official.
