Hostage crisis at Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv
TEL AVIV: A Palestinian took hostages in the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv Tuesday after shots were fired outside,Israeli police said. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said,the attacker was Nadim Injaz,a West Bank Palestinian who tried to seek asylum at another embassy four years ago. Channel 2 TV played a recording where the Injaz says,I have two hostages.
5th round of polls for Nepal PM delayed
KATHMANDU: Nepals Parliament,which has failed to elect a new Prime Minister for over six weeks,got a brief reprieve after the fifth round of election slated for Wednesday was postponed. The House will be adjourned tomorrow for mourning the death of Ram Kumari Yadav,a sitting member,and a fresh date of election will be announced soon after, Lakshman Ghimire,chief whip of the Congress Parliamentary Party said.
36 killed,scores hurt in new China flooding
BEIJING: At least 36 people have died and 23 others are missing in fresh flooding from torrential rains in Chinas Gansu province. The Xinhua News Agency reported that the deaths came Monday from flooding in Longnan city near Zhouqu.
Romanian diplomat caught spying: Russia
MOSCOW: Russias Federal Security Service FSB said it detained a Romanian diplomat on Monday after he was caught red-handed trying to obtain military intelligence. The detainee was identified as Gabriel Grecu. He was working as first secretary of political department of Romanian embassy in Moscow.
US varsity starts Hindi programme for graduates
WASHINGTON: With Indias rapid emergence as an economic giant,a US university has launched a two-year course to prepare MBA students to thrive in India. The Hindi Programme,of University of Pennsylvanias Lauder Institute in Philadelphia,will culminate with a Wharton School MBA and Master of Arts. To begin in May 2011,the joint-degree programme promises language training in Hindi as well as study of Indias culture,politics,values and business practices.
Mel Gibson crashes his 110,000 car
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Mel Gibson escaped without injuries after crashing his car while on a late night drive in Malibu. The Academy award winning actor who is involved in a court battle with estranged girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva over domestic violence,crashed his 110,000 Maserati,reports celebrity website TMZ. Gibson lost control of his car on the hillside of Malibu Canyon road on Sunday night,according to the California Highway Patrol.
