N Korea launches tours from China
MOUNT KUMGANG: A rusty cargo ship with welcome banners arrived Wednesday at North Koreas Diamond Mountain resort to mark the launch of new tours from China that snub Seoul and aim to replace suspended South Korean trips. For a decade,the two Koreas jointly operated a golf resort ringed by Mount Kumgangs seaside vistas,but Seoul halted the reconciliation project in 2008 after a North Korean guard shot and killed a South Korean tourist.
Syrian security forces carry out raids,arrests
BEIRUT: Syrian security forces searching for anti-government protesters raided houses in central Syria and made arrests,activists said Wednesday. The troops,backed by tanks and military vehicles,entered districts in Homs and Hama as part of efforts to crush five months of street protests against President Bashar Assad.
Israel warns Hamas of harsh response
JERUSALEM: Israeli military chief has warned Hamas and other militants in Gaza not to test the might of his country by launching terror attacks from Sinai in Egypt. Hamas and the other terror groups in the Gaza Strip should know that bringing harm to Israeli citizens will bring about a harsh response. They do not want to test our might, Israeli Defence Forces Chief of Staff Lt.Gen Benny Gantz said.
