Pak anti-corruption orders Malik to appear on Jan 2

Islamabad: A Pakistani anti-corruption court on Monday directed Interior Minister Rahman Malik,a beneficiary of the National Reconciliation Ordinance struck down by the Supreme Court,to appear before it on January 2. Maliks lawyer Amjad Iqbal Qureshi filed an application for bail in connection with two corruption cases that were reopened. Meanwhile,the PML-N on Monday said it would not support any unconstitutional step against the President,a stand that may help ease pressure on beleaguered Asif Ali Zardari.

Indian student in Oz redesigns wheelchair

MELBOURNE: An Indian student from Swinburne University of Technology,Australia,has designed a vehicle with built-in storage space,which will give the people with disabilities an opportunity to run their own businesses from wheelchair. The vehicle,engineered by final year student of product design Rachit Vora,is a wheelchair driven by a manual lever with built-in storage space,which will allow the user to store and sell products such as magazines and newspapers.

Needles were meant to kill him: Stepdad

RIO DE JANEIRO: The jailed stepfather who inserted 42 needles inside the body of his stepson admitted in a TV interview that he shoved the needles into the two-year-old because he wanted to kill the boy to spite his wife. Speaking from his cell,30-year-old Roberto Carlos Magalhaes said he doped the child with wine mixed in water. I did this two or three times a week during one month, Magalhaes told Globo TVs Fantastico on Sunday from a jail in Bahia.

Clarify report on Fonseka removal

Colombo: The Marxist JVP party in Sri Lanka has sought clarification from the government on a Pakistani media report claiming that Sarath Fonseka was removed as Army Chief on advice from India due to fear of coup. The report says it was carried out at the advice of Indian Premier Manmohan Singh, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva said.
