NAWADA: Nine French tourists,who were detained by police for violation of visa rules,were rescued when a fire broke out in the circuit house in Nawada district where they were lodged,police said on Sunday. The tourists were safely brought out by policemen when the fire broke out in its kitchen. The blaze was later doused by its staff. The tourists had been detained for violation of visa rules as soon as they arrived at Qadirganj,near here,on Saturday night.

Man held for posing as Mamata’s brother

TAMLUK: A man was arrested at Contai in Purba Medinipur district for posing as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s brother,police sources said on Sunday. The accused,Anjan Bhattacharya,had called up the Sub-Divisional Officer of Contai,Sumit Gupta,on Friday and introduced himself as Kartik Banerjee,the brother of the chief minister,sources said. Bhattacharya asked the SDO to arrange for a room at a guest house and also provide him a vehicle at Contai.

Man kills wife,two daughters in Bihar

BHAGALPUR: A man killed his second wife and two daughters by slitting their throats at Kola Narayanpur village in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district,police said on Sunday. The bodies of Mala Devi (35) and her daughters,Sheelam Kumari (9) and Karishma (2),were recovered from a field in the village on Saturday. The man,identified as Jaldhar Das,had killed his wife and two daughters three days ago after apparently being fed up of frequent quarrels.
