Though the Foreign Minister-level talks have been put off for the time being,India and Pakistan would have bilateral talks early next week at the level of their border guarding organisations,to discuss issues like infiltration, smuggling of arms, narcotics and fake currency notes.
The director generals of Pakistan Rangers of Sindh and Punjab ranges are coming to New Delhi to hold talks with the director general of Border Security Force U K Bansal. The two-day talks will be held on Monday and Thursday. The visitors will go to Agra and Ajmer Sharif on the intervening days.
The two sides have exchanged a list of agenda. The talks are about general day to day better management of our borders. We have raised certain issues like smuggling of liquor, narcotics like heroin, and small arms which have seen an increase through the Punjab border this year. The issue of firing across the border would also come up. They too have some concerns of their own, Bansal told The Sunday Express .
The issue of Fake Indian Currency Note FICN is likely to figure prominently at the talks. Smuggling of narcotics, crossing of borders, sometimes inadvertent,by fishermen and their boats in the Sir Creek area, and defence constructions along the border are some of the issues for discussions. The two sides are expected to come up with a joint statement on July 5.
