Supporters of the BJP and the Congress clashed in Kanpur on Sunday as the BJP workers were on their way to stage a demonstration outside Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswals residence on the issue of coal block allocation.
BJP leaders claimed that over a dozen of their party workers were injured by Congress workers who pelted stones at them. Police,however,denied reports of injury. Kanpur DIG Amitabh Yash said: Nobody was injured in the incident. Police used only mild lathicharge to control the situation. The police have not received any complaint from the BJP. Jaiswal was in Kanpur on Sunday but he had left his house when the incident took place.
