In a crackdown on criminal activities in the state, the Bihar government website now has a page listing names of those convicted of serious charges in the state. It has also decided to appeal against bail to 500 alleged criminals and convicts in Bihar that it has shortlisted.
Explaining the idea behind the Civil Consequences of Crime website page,DGP Abhyanand said: It is to ensure that such people live with crime scars throughout their life, even after they complete their jail term. Such people must not get any employment. It will serve as a deterrent.
The DGP admitted that this could be controversial but added that he believed it was needed to check crime.
Opposing bail pleas is another move the Bihar Police is vigorously pursuing. Already applications have been filing against bail to 110 people, either convicted or facing trial in more than one criminal case,in the Patna High Court. Police headquarters said their investigations had revealed these accused had been directly or indirectly involved in criminal activities while out on bail.
The list includes former RJD Siwan MP Mohammed Shahabuddin, who is in jail after being sentenced to life in two cases,as well as alleged gangsters such as Kundal Singh,Omkarnath Singh,Awadesh Mandal.
We have been filing applications in high court daily, Abhyanand said, adding that reports from districts showed criminals were actively involved in crime during bail. They had shortlisted people who have either been convicted or were facing one to five criminal cases.
The police,he said, had also found that persons furnishing bonds for accused and convicts had either impersonated or forged documents. We are going to district courts to request lodging of cases against such bond furnishers, the DGP said.
