A day after Narendra Modi’s puppy analogy triggered an outrage,Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma,in a veiled attack on the Gujarat chief minister, cautioned the people Saturday against allowing a “mad dog” from polluting the temple of democracy.

“Loktantra ke mandir ko kisi pagal kutte sey pradushit na hone dey. Yeh janata ka farz hai. (It is the responsibility of country’s people for not letting any mad dog to pollute the temple of democracy),” he said in Chunar,Mirzapur.

He said that the country got its freedom due to the sacrifices of both Hindus and Muslims,“Both communities have given sacrifices for the country’s freedom… Contribution by any community cannot be undermined.”

Verma also lashed out at Modi for his claim to wipe out the Congress and announcing to construct a 200-foot statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. “Modi’s claim is ridiculous. He wants to wipe out the Congress from the country and build an idol of Sardar Patel who remained in the Congress his whole life. Even Sardar Patel’s daughter Maniben Patel was a Congress MP till her death.”

Surprisingly,he softened his stand towards SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had targeted in the recent past. “He is my old friend but we are politically apart. I have requested for leasing out the iron ore mines in Lalitpur and Sonbhadra so that we can set up factories. It will be beneficial to the people of the state who will get jobs.”
