Bengal minister hurt saving son from ‘suicide’

Sayan Biswas,24,the son of Bengal Food Processing minister Ujjal Biswas,allegedly attempted suicide by setting himself on fire at his residence in Krishnagar early Sunday morning.

The victim was rushed to Shaktinagar district hospital in Krishnagar and was later shifted to the ICU at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Kolkata after his condition deteriorated. Sayan received 80 per cent burns. An official from the hospital said the condition of the minister’s son was critical.

While trying to save his son,the minister too injured himself and had to be given first aid. Sayan,a student of Sonarpur Engineering College,returned home a few days back on leave.

According to preliminary investigation,the police suspect that he had attempted suicide after being jilted in a love affair. Sayan set himself on fire in his room at around 1 am on Sunday.
