Tata Group software services company TCS today became the country8217;s most valued firm with a market capitalisation of Rs 2,79,804 crore,surpassing energy major ONGC8217;s value of Rs 2,79,465 crore.
At the end of trade today,TCS commanded a market cap of Rs 2,79,804 crore,the highest for any listed company in the country. This is about Rs 339 crore more than the ONGC8217;s m-cap.
Shares of TCS ended 0.31 per cent higher,while ONGC settled with a loss of 0.53 per cent on the BSE.
Last week on Thursday,ONGC had surpassed the market value of TCS,but the energy major8217;s rein at the top position proved to be short-lived with the IT major reclaiming the coveted position today.
Reliance Industries with a market capitalisation of Rs 2,59,989 crore was at third position,followed by ITC Rs 2,50,804 crore and Coal India Rs 1,96,786 crore.
Market capitalisation or the value of a listed company is arrived at by multiplying the total number of its shares with its stock price on a particular day or time. This figure changes daily with the change in the stock price.
