Attack on Nigeria mosque leaves 12 dead

Armed gunmen attacked a rural village Sunday in northern Nigeria,killing at least 12 people,including worshippers leaving a mosque after prayers before dawn,officials said

Armed gunmen attacked a rural village Sunday in northern Nigeria,killing at least 12 people,including worshippers leaving a mosque after prayers before dawn,officials said.

The attack happened in Dogon Dawa village of Kaduna state where police and security forces maintain only a light presence.

A rescue official said the attack began in the early morning,with as many as 50 gunmen surrounding the village. The majority of those killed appeared to be leaving the villages main mosque after the prayers,the official said.

State police commissioner Olufemi Adenaike said 12 people were killed in the attack.
