The BJP’s decision to distribute CDs at a Mumbai press meet on September 9 showing the footage of the riots over the removal of a Miraj poster depicting Maratha king Shivaji slaying Afzal Khan is now under the scrutiny of the Election Commission.
The press conference was essentially about the party’s stand on the Miraj-Sangli communal riots and was chaired by senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
Officials are taking steps to collect the copy of the CD from the BJP office. State Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Chakraborty said: If CDs have been distributed by parties,it would fall under a violation of code of conduct.
Miraj finally carried out Ganesh immersions amidst tight security on Thursday. A large number of people turned up during the immersion procession in the riot-hit town. The administration did not allow the display of the disputed picture of Shivaji .Many waved black flags in protest and some shouted slogans against the state government.
