Ending the three-month long political uncertainty in Arunachal Pradesh,Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and PCC chief Nabam Tuki, who was leading the revolt against the CM,are reported to have submitted their resignations from their respective posts late on Friday night.
The CM is expected to send his resignation letter to the Governor after Congress president Sonia Gandhi decides on his successor. Although Tuki is said to have the support of a majority of party legislators, the Congress high command is learnt to be looking for a neutral person to head the government. There are many other aspirants in the fray, including Mukut Mithi and Sanjoy Takam, said party sources.
The group led by Tuki claims the support of 24 of the 42 Congress legislators.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said while no decision had been taken yet on their resignations,Sonia would soon take a call. The Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister and the PCC chief have offered to submit their resignations. As of now,no decision has been taken. It is under consideration, he said.
Earlier,a three-member team of Central observers, including AICC in-charge of the state,Dhaniram Shandil, former Union Minister B K Handique and Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, was sent to the state to meet party legislators and ascertain their views. After meeting the Congress Legislature Party, they reportedly informed Sonia that Gamlin lacked the support of a majority of MLAs.
Gamlin, who was made Chief Minister in May following the death of Dorjee Khandu in a helicopter crash, has faced dissidence ever since his appointment.
