As part of the bailout package for Air India,it was decided that all ministries would order their staff to travel by the national carrier. But this measure to ensure occupancy in the Air India flights and some funds in its coffers invited many objections. It is learnt that the Ministry of External Affairs,the Commerce Ministry and the Department of Space conveyed their reservations,pointing out that the AI schedule may not suit officials at all times. Now,a fresh set of exemptions to the rule is being formulated to allow babus to forego Air India flights under certain conditions.
