2 Maoist commanders found dead in Jharkhand

The bodies of two top Maoist commanders were found under the Gerua bridge within Chatra district’s Pratappur Police Station Area on Thursday morning. The bodies of the two,Sub Zonal Commander Niraj Yadav and Area Commander Baleshwar Yadav, were found near Barapur village. They are presumed to have been killed by left wing extremist group Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC).

The two men had allegedly been abducted by the TSPC,along with four others, from Parsachuan village in Bihar’s Gaya district on Wednesday.

Jharkhand police assume that the four others have been let off and that the immediate provocation for the killings was a dispute over the collection of levy.

On March 27-28 this year, the TSPC had killed 10 members of the CPI-Maoist in Chatra’s Lakramanda village, located within Kunda block. The TSPC has scaled up its operations recently, accounting for 59 Left Wing Extremism (LWE) incidents up to July 20,2013 as compared to 33 up to the same date the last year – a jump of 78.78 per cent.
