A week before D-Day, three key members of the Indian team (Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan) and another senior member (Anil Kumble), expected to be fit for the Test series, had a look at the Samsung Cup for the India-Pakistan one-day series.

Dravid, the vice-captain, answered queries on various subjects…

What kind of wickets are the Indians likely to face in Pakistan?

Not all wickets in Pakistan are slow, as some people make it sound. In the series against South Africa last year, one saw a couple of tracks in Pakistan that had more bounce and pace than the others. Anyway, as international cricketers, we are expected to adapt and adjust to the situations and conditions.

How do you think the battles will shape up?

We’ve just come back from a tough series in Australia. It should work to our advantage. We hope to take that intensity into the Pakistan series.

The ICC’s list of cricketers violating the code of conduct has your name

There are some big names in the list (laughs). It (the news) was so confusing when I read it in the papers this morning. Some even called it the ‘ICC blacklist.’ It’s just a list of players who had violated the code at some time or the other. I am sure it’s nothing serious. Anyway, cricketers don’t have to lose their sleep over it.

Will you be keeping wickets in Pakistan, though Parthiv Patel has been selected for the tour?

It’s becoming too boring to answer. It all depends on the team’s strategy. I’ll do what the team management, coach, captain want. For the team’s sake. This tour will be a good opportunity for young ’keeper like Parthiv to perform and establish himself in the team. I don’t want to say anthing more on the subject.

The series is being billed as one between Indian batsmen and Pakistani bowlers

It’s wrong to project the series in this way. It would be a contest between two teams and two units. One-day is all about team game.

What are your expectations from the tour?

I’m looking forward to some exciting cricket. It’s the first tour to Pakistan for most of us. I appreciate the efforts initaited by the governments of India and Pakistan to resume cricket ties between the two nations. We’ll try to live up to expectations of the people and hope it will be an exciting series.
