All I can say after today’s loss is that we did not learn from our mistakes of the earlier matches. I think we reserved the worst for the most crucial match and lost tamely. After our experience over the past few months when we were on a winning spree, all I can say is that you win some and you lose some. But the manner in which we lost today makes me feel sad. We ought to have made a match of the uphill task but simply fell apart. I do not intend to blame anyone, as a team we have failed our fans today.

Having said all that, congratulations to Pakistan for their brilliant win. It was a fine team effort. It is not easy to rally back after you have lost the first match and win the tournament. I was particularly impressed by the way Afridi and Inzaman batted today. Especially Inzamam, who batted most sensibly after Afridi had given the charge. Pakistan was helped by big partnerships after every wicket, something which did not happen when we batted. Their bowling was spot on, especially the opening spell whichshackled us and added to the pressure in the middle overs.

My luck with the toss continued and I yet again decided to put Pakistan in since I felt our medium pacers could extract something out of the wicket. But the poor run of our bowlers continued. Save Sunil Joshi, who bowled a good line and kept things under control at one end in the middle overs, none of our bowlers stood up to the task. They did their best but their best was mediocre.

After having let Pakistan set a huge target, our hopes rested on big partnerships, something which helped us pull a coup in Dhaka. But that never happened. We got off to a poor start after Sourav fell to a devil of a delivery which kept low and skidded through. But it was the devil in the mind that did us in. When Sherry (Sidhu) and I were in the middle, I though we were still in the match even though the run rate was climbing. But my wicket and the two successive run outs, which I feel was most unnecessary took the match away from us completely.
