NEW DELHI, JANUARY 8: "His (Wadekar) interrogation is over. Whatever we wanted to know we have asked… He was cooperative and answered all our questions,” BCCI anti-corruption commissioner K Madhavan told reporters after a marathon three-and-a-half hour meeting with the former India captain and coach at the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Monday.

Wadekar, whose name does not figure in the CBI report on match-fixing, was however, at loss to explain why this meeting was arranged.

Wadekar said he didn’t know why he was called at this juncture.

“I don’t know why I was asked to depose again. It’s ill-timed as I’m busy campaigning for the Mumbai Cricket Association elections,” Wadekar said.

Wadekar is contesting for the post of President of MCA against Sharad Pawar.

Asked if this inquiry would affect his chances of becoming MCA President, he said, “To a certain extent yes. It may affect.”

Madhavan said he wanted to meet Wadekar in connection with the inquiries he has been asked to conduct into the role of Nikhil Chopra and Kapil Dev into cricket’s worst scandal.

“We have recorded his statement. It’ll be typed and then Wadekar will sign the statement in the evening,” Madhavan said after he and his assistant P K Sharma completed their meeting with Wadekar this afternoon.

Refusing to divulge what transpired during the meeting, Madhavan said he wanted to know whether Wadekar had something more to say than what he told CBI.

On his scheduled meeting with Kapil Dev on Wednesday, Madhavan said the time and venue were yet to be decided. “He (Kapil Dev) has more or less confirmed but nothing is final as yet.”
