Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today said the alleged irregularities in the voters’ lists in the state were the result of ‘‘printing mistakes’’. But the Opposition showed no signs of relenting and demanded immediate suspension of the 10 officials, including three collectors, recommended by the Election Commission.

‘‘Printing of the lists was done by the EC. This is something over which the state has no control,’’ Singh said. He said the printing mistakes may have occurred as contracts for printing them were given, in some cases, to those who were ‘‘ill-equipped’’ to do the job. Because of this, some lists were printed in haste and this may have led to the errors, he said.

Dhar mosque is Waqf property: Minority panel
BHOPAL: The Bhojshala-Kamal Moula Mosque at Dhar is a Waqf property and must be protected, the MP Minorities Commission has said in a report to CM Digvijay Singh. Commission chairman Mohammed Ibrahim Qureshi said the mosque was important to the Muslims and any attempt to change its character would send a wrong signal to the community. He added that only the Waqf tribunal could solve the ownership and other matters related to it. (ENS)

‘‘Even the BJP is not complaining that there are mistakes in the original draft voters’ lists (prepared by hand),’’ Singh said. He challenged anyone to prove if the lists omitted even a single voter whose name should have been in it or if it contained any additional name.

He said BJP’s claim that the irregularities had exposed his election management were wrong. ‘‘How can having voters’ lists full of printing mistakes be part of any person’s election management?’’ Singh asked and said no one should be under any illusion that these irregularities were committed deliberately.

Demanding the suspension of collectors of Rewa, Shahdol and Khargone districts, state BJP president Kailash Joshi said: ‘‘It does not behove the Chief Minister to say that the EC’s recommendations against these officials were harsh.’’

Earlier, also Singh had been claiming that elections are won ‘‘not on the basis of development work but due to poll management,’’ Joshi said adding, ‘‘this time, his tactics have been exposed much before the Assembly elections’’.
