
VADODARA, June 24: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation8217;s drive against violators of fire safety norms in the city went a step ahead on Wednesday, when notices were issued to the Gujarat Electricity Board and around 15 more high-rise buildings. A notice is reportedly being prepared for the multi-storied government office complex, Narmada Bhavan.
Chief Fire Officer Mahendra Desai said the buildings issued notices included the Muktidham Complex, Alankar Towers, Unique Trade Centre, Suraj Plaza II and Miraj Towers, Helix Complex, Phoenix Complex, Deepnagar Towers, Blue Diamond Complex, Anand House, Pavanveer and Samrajya in Fatehganj. Nine residential and commercial complexes were issued notices on Tuesday.
When contacted, GEB Member Administration S K Nanda said the new building of the Board was not complete and the certificate yet to be acquired. 8220;A senior fire officer in the Board is well aware about the norms,8221; he added.
Meanwhile, voluntary demolitions of parts of buildings falling within the road margin continued following the VMC8217;s warning that it would demolish them if the owners did not. According to VMC records, out of the 747 persons issued notices, 170 parties were bringing down their constructions on their own. The highest of these instances 81 was at Panigate, where the largest number of notices had also been issued.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel said the VMC would, from next week, forcibly remove signboards that were not brought down despite public notices that they did not meet the General Development Control Regulations.
