NEW DELHI, JANUARY 28: Seeking to intensify the drive against corruption, the Chief Vigilance Commissioner N Vittal has said that 2000 more names of tainted officers from All India Services will be released on his website.
He had earlier put on his website names of about 100 such officers to create public awareness and put pressure on the Government to expedite departmental proceedings against them.
The number of names will keep on increasing as and when his office gets to know about the corrupt officers, he said in an interview to Ru-Ba-Ru programme on Zee TV, a release from the network said.
He said there was some confusion in the earlier list as the batch and cadre of officers were not mentioned and that the new list, which includes officers from IRS, IAS, IPS and others is more specific.
About statutory status to CVC, he said the matter had been referred to a select committee and if it was rejected, there would be a constitutional crisis as the Government had introduced the bill as per directives of the Supreme Court.
He discounted apprehension that MPs will be under his purview.
"I have heard the members are worried or want that MPs should not be under the control of CVC and they want this to be very clear in the bill. Whereas I am surprised when the Bill clearly states that the CVC will give its report on `Group A officers’, where is the room for such fears?" he asked.
Drawing parallels between Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel, he said, "I think Atalji is great. I admire his oratory skills and his very pleasant nature. I think we are fortunate to have a man like Atalji as the Prime Minister."
Asked if he was a Seshan in the making, he said, "I would like to be a first-rate Vittal than a second-rate Seshan."
