PANCHKULA, July 16: Ton-up Vishwas Bhalla and Gaurav Gupta starred in Panchkula Coaching Centre’s big 172-run win over Hansraj School Academy in a semifinal match of the first District Panchkula Under-16 cricket tournament here today.

Boosted by Vishwas (119 n.o.; 74 balls) and Gaurav (91; 56 balls), PCC XI ammassed 262 for 2 in the allotted 25 overs. Vishwas played strokes all around the ground, hitting 14 fours.

Hansraj Academy were never in the race and buckled under pressure. They were bowled out for a paltry 90. Ridam (3 for 18) and Aman (2 for 12) were the main wicket-takers for PCC XI.

Scores: PCC XI: 262 for 2 in 25 overs (Vishwas Bhalla 119 n.o., Gaurav Gupta 91, Brijesh 27 n.o.) beat Hansraj Academy XI: 90 in 20.1 overs (Gureep 13, Aman 15; Ridam 3-18, Aman Verma 2-12).

North Zone trials
The Chandigarh Ball Badminton Association will conduct trials on July 19 at the Shivalik Public School, Sector 41 at 4 p.m., for selection of the city senior teams for the forthcoming third North Zone ball badminton championship to be held at Jalandhar in September.

Chandigarh are the defending champions in the women’s category.

Ball badminton meet
The first edition of Mini State ball badminton championship will be held at Government Model Senior Secondary School-37 from August 17 to 19, according to a press release of the Chandigarh Ball Badminton Association.

The third Junior State meet is slated to be held from August 26 to 29 at Sri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School-35. The Senior State will be held in September at MDAV School in Sector 22.

Chandigarh teams for the junior and senior nationals will be selected after the tournament.

Junior basketball
Junior basketball tournament in the girls category will be held from July 30 to August 1 at Sector 7 Sports Complex, under the aegis of the Chandigarh Sports Department. According to JPS Sidhu, Joint Director Sports, school teams are eligible to take part in the meet. Entries close on July 26, with KS Bharti, basketball coach, at the venue.

In the boys section the meet will be held in the second week of August.Basketball meet
An Inter-Department basketball tournament will be held in the first week of August, according to an official of the Chandigarh Sports Department. Four teams are expected to participate in the meet.
