CHANDIGARH, Feb 25: Vinod Kumar and Manpreet Kaur were declared best athletes in the men’s and women’s sections respectively, in the Government College, Sector 46 annual athletic meet held at the college ground here today.
Vinod got a gold in the 400-metre and a silver medal in long jump event. He was third in triple jump and 1,500 metre race.
Manpreet also got four medals, including gold in javelin throw. She won silver in shot put, discus throw and two-lap race, putting a stamp on her dominance in the meet.
Brijesh and Dilraj won the 100 metres dash and emerged the fastest male and female athlete, respectively, of the meet. PS Gill, Sub-Divisonal Magistrate, UT Administration, was chief guest on the occasion , who gave away the prizes to the winners. Earlier, the meet was inaugurated by DS Mangat, Director Public Instructor (Colleges).

Football trials
The Chandigarh Football Association (CFA) will hold trials to select 30 probables for the Senior National football championship (Santosh Trophy: to be held at Chennai from March 17) on March 1, at Sector 17 Football Stadium at 3 p.m. According to a press release, players affiliated to CFA are eligible for the trials.
Hockey meet
Patiala Range prevailed over Panchkula XI by 2-1 in the opening match of the fifth Players Memorial All India Hockey Tournament which was inaugurated by Fatehgarh Sahib Additional Deputy Commissioner G S Bhatti. In another match Amloh beat Patiala XI.
