CHANDIGARH, June 14: The residents of Raipur Kalan have resented that the UT Administration has not been awarding reasonable compensation to villagers, for acquiring their land for the public purposes. They said that the prevalent rate of compensation was about Rs 4.8 lakhs per acre which was "very unreasonable."

Ranbir Singh, panch of the village, said that there was previously a scheme under which the oustees of the land acquired by the government were allotted plots in addition to the compensation. "But this scheme hasn’t been revived in spite of our repeated representations to the concerned authorities," he said.

They have also demanded reservation for rural people. "The rural youth cannot compete with the urban ones, which deprive them of jobs in the government organisations," he added.
