
Lucknow, Oct 13: Local favourite Vijay Kumar will mark his return from the Alfred Dunhill Cup by leading the field in the Rs 6 lakh Wills Northern Open, beginning in Lucknow tomorrow.
The Wills Northern Open is the fifth event of the 1999-2000 Wills Sport Indian Golf Tour season and marks the beginning of the northern leg of the Tour.
A strong field will try to stop the twice Mahindra Player of the Year, Vijay Kumar. Among those present are Feroz Ali, Color Plus Open champion and the current Order of Merit leader; the defending champion Ali Sher; veteran Rohtas Singh fresh from his first title in four years at last week’s Surya Nepal Masters in Kathmandu; Basad Ali, Rafiq Ali and Shiv Prakash, all twice winners on the Wills Sport Golf Tour last season, Mhow’s Mukesh Kumar and the 1999 Wills Indian Open runner-up Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia.
The battle-hardened pros will be tested by a number of promising amateurs who turned pro this season.
