Leh, September 4: Vijay Kumar Digge (Solapur) emerged the new winner of the world’s ultimate hill climb motor sport event — HP Engine Oil-Great Himalayan Motor Race — with the timing of 1.05:21 seconds. He finds a special place in the history of this climb race because he made it possible without doing a recce on the route. Digge’s was Class 7 in the four-wheeler category. He drove Mahindra and Mahindra jeep. He was navigated by Santosh Jadhav.

Overall winner in the scooter class, Sherene Yanhzor (1.07:58 secs) stole the limelight as he won the coveted title on his debut. His was a LML NV (150cc) scooter. The young boy to follow him was Gulzar Ahmed, who completed the race despite getting hurt. Sapan Dasgupta (Calcutta), Fida Mohammed (Leh) and Rakesh Revoo (Leh) were presented special prizes. All other winners got fabulous trophies and handsome cash prizes.

The Leh motorsport enthusiasts took out a winners’ procession soon after the prize distribution function.

Galdem Chhimed- Gulam Mohammed (Leh); 2. Feroza Ahmed-Tasleen Ahmed (Leh). Class V: Abdul Wahid (Leh). Class VI: Punchok Amechuk (Leh). Class VII: 1. Vijay Kumar Digge- Santosh Jadhav (overall winners; 1.05:21 secs).

Two-wheeler: Class M2: 1. Tswang Dorjee (Leh; overall winner), 2. Mohammed Rafi (Leh), 3. Satnam Singh (Nagpur). Class M3: 1. Dinesh Sethi (Mumbai), 2. Tsering Stobdan (Leh). Class S5: Skarma Dorjee (Leh). Class FS4: 1. Mehboob Hussain (Leh), 2. Subhash Parseonikar (Nagpur), 3. Vijay Sethi (Ahmednagar). Class FS 6: 1. Jumma Malik (Leh), 2. Narendra Chandrashekhar (Chennai). Class FS 7: 1. Michael Marchant (England), 2. Bharat Pasman (Leh), 3. Oren Ezra (Israel). Overall winner: Tswang Dorjee (Leh; 1.03:27 secs). Scooter class: Sherene Yanhzor (Leh; 1.17:58 secs), 2. Gulzar Ahmed (Leh), 3. Mutup Channro (Leh).
