NEW DELHI, JANUARY 20: Even as many Indians are busy shelling out Rs 400 for each smuggled tablet of Viagra, the rest of the world is wizening up its little known country cousin made in Chennai.

The state government-run Tamil Nadu Medicinal Plant Farms and Herbal Medicine Corporation Ltd (Tampcol) is struggling to meet the export demands that have been placed for Vigorous and Vigorous Gold, their all-herbal answer to the world’s most loved blue pill.

“A US-based company has placed an export order worth $1 million (Rs 4.3 crore) with us, and we’ve already got an advance for it,” says P Rama Mohana Rao, Managing Director, Tampcol. Another order from Malaysia to the tune of Rs 4-5 crore is expected to be finalised on January 21.

“We have also been approached by countries from the Middle-East, the Far-East and Europe, while Malaysia and Singapore have plans to import and re-export our product,” says Mohana Rao.

Meanwhile, Vigorous is continuing to do average business in the domestic market, with its monthly sales being in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh. The product costs Rs 320 for a pack of 30 capsules, and Rs 129 for a pack of ten, which more than favourably compares with its costlier cousin. “The formulation is based on ancient texts and is completely herbal and non-hormonal,” says Mohana Rao.

That’s not all Vigorous has going in its favour. Packaged as a herbal “rejuvenator for vigour and vitality”, it not only get your love life back on track but also rids you of stress, fatigue and insomnia. There’s no gender bias involved either, as Vigorous can be taken as safely by women.
