Via media

The Syrian Embassy here handpicked a select group of journalists for an interaction with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during his just concluded visit. The plan was good8212;until an Israeli TV crew landed up in Delhi and wanted to attend the press meet. They had come to cover the visit and much to the irritation of the Syrians wanted to benefit from the unquestioning free media approach of the Indian Government. Finally, Syria put its foot down and said the interaction with the President was its domain and that no Israeli journalist could be extended an invitation. The disappointed crew returned rather empty handed.
