Saurashtra unit of the VHP, buoyed by the recent ASI report that suggested existence of a temple at Ayodhya prior to construction of Babri Masjid, is going ahead in full steam enrolling people for a possible kar seva in the future.

VHP Saurashtra in-charge Ramnik Savsani said: ‘‘As per instructions of the Shriramjanmbhoomi Ucchadhikar Samiti, we have begun Sankalpsutra Abhiyan in the villages of Saurashtra. VHP will ask people to take a vow for temple construction.’’ VHP is holding public meetings and distributing audio cassettes and printed material in the rural areas to motivate people to come forward for kar seva. ‘‘After the ASI report, there is a possibility of a call for kar seva anytime. So, we are creating awareness on it,’’ Savsani added.

He added: ‘‘At the September 15 meeting of top VHP leaders, a decision will be taken on the issue which will be accepted by all.’’

Under Sankalpsutra Abhiyan, VHP volunteers will visit every village in Saurashtra to create awareness among the people.

They have prepared a note in Gujarati, Hindi and English giving details of the ASI report. The note says a brick wall belonging to a medieval temple (8th or 9th Century AD) existed at the site. The VHP has also prepared a kit, which includes an audio cassette ‘‘Socho Aur Samcho’’ by its international secretary Pravin Togadia and several pamphlets, explaining the significance of Ram Temple.

In this 30-minute cassette, Togadia, in his typical style has branded Islam a non-secular religion in the face of Hinduism. He has praised Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu CM J. Jaylalithaa for introducing anti-conversion bills in their states. He emphasised that to maintain the secular fabric of India, it should remain Hindu-dominated.

According to him, if Hindus are not careful, in the another 100 years they will be reduced to a minority. The VHP has presented figures according to which population of Hindus has increased only by two fold since 1947, while Muslim population has registered 10 fold increase.

In one of the three leaflets, the VHP has explained the significance of Ram Temple at Ayodhya. In another pamphlet, it has said at present Hindus are not safe in Hindustan and construction of the temple will provide a sense of security to them. The third leaflet, titled Sawdhan Abhiyan, has warned Hindu girls not to marry Muslim boys. Through sketches, the pamphlet asks: ‘‘Do you want to became a prostitute? If no, then read and think.’’ It says how the lives of several Hindu girls from Surat, Vadodara and Bharuch have been ruined.
