VADODARA, Aug 9: Members of the guideline committee which looked into the sexual harassment case on campus have critisised the decision of the M S University8217;s syndicate rejecting the recommendations without looking studying Supreme Court guidelines.

Amita Verma, a guideline committee member, said the committee had several documents and drafts of guidelines of a number of varsities, and the recommendations were made after the committee had met about 14 times.

8220;The Supreme Court judgement and the guidelines provide the basic framework around which the committee framed its recommendations,8221; claimed Verma. She added that in January, the Indian Association for Women8217;s Studies and the Human Rights programme of Hyderabad university jointly held a national consultation on sexual harassment, whose recommendations were also included in this report.

Having done this, the committee framed a detailed set of guidelines suitable for M S University and also made some general recommendations. 8220;The arbitrary manner in which the report was rejected is highly ominous because it sets a precedent for handling any further matters related to sexual harassment which may be placed before the syndicate,8221; said Verma.
