January 28: The entertainmenmt giant, Venus Records and Music Company is all set to enter the world of television. The brand which began in the eighties as a small cassette shop, has over the years beconme a name to reckon with in the music and film industry. Speaking to Newsline, Ganesh Jain, a partner in the firm said that the company had been considering entering the television industry for the past year.
“The television industry is booming right now, the growth is tremendous and the younger partners in the company were increasingly feeling that we were neglecting this medium. It was a field that we in Venus must enter given our track record in films and music,” Jain said. He added that Venus was not thinking in terms of launching a channel at the present time, but concentrating on producing serials and providing software. “Even though there is keen competion in the field of television production, we feel there is a dearth of good quality shows and software and we hope to meet this demand,” he explained.
Venus has already started shooting for a number of serials.“We expect to have our first serial on air by the begining of March,” Jain added, though he refused to eloberate further on any of their projects under production. “We would not like to give away too much on the the subject of the serial, since it takes away the impact and the excitement associated with it,” he explained.
Jain added that the company was a family firm handled by seven brothers and their children, under the leadership of Ratan Jain. “We have enough trained man-power and the requisite capital to venture into television production,”explained Jain.
In the 12 years of its operation, Venus has produced several successful films including Khiladi, Baazigar, Main Anari Tu Khiladi, Baadshah and Josh. It appears it is not just superstars of the big screen like Amitabh Bachchan, Shabhana Azmi and Govinda who have been lured by the small screen, film producers and music companies want their share of the pie, too.
