MUMBAI, JANUARY 28: The post-Independence generation of the country will get glimpses of the Raj when the Vintage and Classic Car Club of India (VCCCI) organises India’s first International Rally for vintage and classic cars.
The `Rally of the Raj’ will be flagged off at New Delhi on Feb 11 and will traverse through four states before finishing at Mumbai on Feb 19. The following day the cars will take part in the annual vintage fiesta in the city.
Fifteen foreign cars will be in fray in the rally — the oldest among them being a 1909 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost owned by the National Motor Museum of Beaulieu, UK. The car will be driven by Lord Montagu, a past president of the Federation of International Le Vehicles Anciens (FIVA).
Six Bentleys and four Rolls Royce are among the other overseas attactions. “All the vehicles are million dollar-plus cars,” said Pranlal Bhogilal, President of the VCCCI.
About six Indian entries are expected to compete in the prestigious rally, in which all the rallyists willexperience the grandeur of the bygone era by staying at the palaces of the erstwhile royals.
